About The Team

How does IHSA work?
For each show, we travel to the hosting barn as a team. The points gained by each rider are given to the individual as well as the team. Points are determined by the placement received in the class each rider competes in. All riders are drawn a horse at random to show.
At UConn, students ride many different horses in the lesson program so they are prepared for similar challenges in the show ring. For further information about UConn Horsebarn in general please click here

Our season consists of approximately ten shows a year and we compete during both semesters. Our region is comprised of nine other schools from around Connecticut, including Sacred Heart, Trinity College, Central Connecticut, and Fairfield University. At Regionals, the top two riders from each division can qualify to compete at Zones. Teams can also qualify as a whole for Zones by winning their region during their season.

Interested in being on the team?
Each fall semester the team hosts tryouts for all potential members. Tryouts are ran in IHSA Show format. We ask that all riders trying out come prepare in horse show attire (i.e. helmet, tall boots, show coat, gloves, and breeches).
It is highly encouraged that all those interested in trying out for the UConn Equestrian Team sign up for the practicum prior to tryouts. This allows for further evaluation based on lesson performance and eagerness to interact with fellow team members.
